Heisman Leader Dixon Goes Down; Wildcats Pounce On #2 Oregon!
November 16, 2007
Number 2 Oregon lost more than just their star QB and Heisman front-runner Dennis Dixon (pictured below) Thursday night — they also lost any realistic shot of playing for the BCS National Championship at the end of the college football season. The high-flying Ducks quarterback landed on his knee awkwardly during a scramble in the first quarter, and had to be escorted off the field by teammates. Leading 8-0 at the time, Oregon just wasn’t the same high-octane team that it had been all year with Dixon taking the snaps. From there on out, the U of A Wildcats turned into a completely different team, seemingly pounding away at Dixon’s backup repeatedly, and making crucial interceptions and stops at just the right times. With under 4 minutes left, the Wildcats kicked a field goal to go up 34-24, and putting away any hopes that Oregon might’ve had of playing for the national title. As the game ended, the University of Arizona faithful stormed the field, showing their unbridled support for a team that has had its fair share of ups and downs this season. Looking forward to seeing if the team can win out and become bowl-eligible. Go Cats!
