Poker Sites Shut Down
November 13, 2011
Unless you have been completely out of contact with the world, you probably have heard about the United States Department of Justice shutting down the poker sites that have been offering their services to US citizens. You can read a great article about it here: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/04/online-gaming-forfeiture/ but suffice it to say that they focused on three of the big ones this time around, but there are many grumblings within the online poker industry that this is just the start of the battle between the Department and the online gambling community. There are many problems that can be solved in this country by making online casino gambling legal, but according to the US government we would be allowing terrorists to run their money through our country.
Now anyone that thinks that by allowing the casino online industry to be legalized we would end up a nation of addicts, well, you just can’t reason with some people. However, there are more people playing out there than you are aware of and they are not addicts. However, this is not to say that they do not exist, for surely there are addicts in every industry, but study after study has shown that this is not a determining factor among those that play internet gambling. In fact, they have proved that those that are addicted started with land based gambling first. So if you follow their logic, all land based gambling should be gone as well.
But the important thing to remember is that as citizens we have certain rights. We have the right to make money and to spend that money pretty much however we see fit. Unless you are actually causing danger to someone else or yourself, the government should not be involved in these decisions. If you agree, you should contact your representatives to see how they feel about the subject.
