Support for Universal Rules
November 30, 2011
There has been a lot of support lately for an equal set of rules for the member states of the European Union. There are many that feel that everyone needs to be subjected to the same rules and regulations as they pertain to internet wagering and that if they are not then no one needs to do what the EU says. The push is coming from those countries that have not created a monopoly within their borders as it pertains to online gambling, and obviously most of those that are against it have. It has come down to whoever has the best casino and the most people wins, and for some countries that is just not fair considering their resources.
For the smaller countries that have allowed the larger countries to take their players, and have not given them anything in return, it is difficult to swallow. These larger countries like Germany will not allow the smaller countries to offer their online gaming services within their borders unless they have a license to do so. Oh, and the country is not big on handing out licenses to those that are located outside their country. So if you want to offer services to their citizens you have to live there. But they have no problem allowing the citizens of these other countries to use their online betting sites.
They say that they do it to protect their citizens but the EU says that this is not the case. They argue that they are simply trying to keep the money in their own coffers. The EU is working with these member states to see if they can get some sort of an agreement in place so that everyone is happy and everyone gets the ability to play, and make money.
