SHIPdaCHIPS Keeps On Steaming in Stars 30 MTT Win

Date December 11, 2007

SHIPzors is running like a man possessed lately.  After going through what I can only say was probably the shittiest run of his life, it looks like the boy is finally back to his winning ways.  He took down the $30 MTT on PokerStars a few hours ago, pocketing almost $4,000 for his efforts.  Way to go brotha, and obviously I gotta show you main page love and a screenshot.  Congratulations Michael.

Updated The Front Page With New Promotions

Date December 11, 2007

As you’ll notice on the main page of AZGambler.com, I went ahead and put up some pretty solid December promotions.  The Carbon Poker deal really gives a decent bang for your buck, especially if you throw on a $100 or more on your first deposit.  Carbon has always been a great place to play at, and the software and customer service give it a great edge over a lot of other online poker rooms. Use bonus code FIRSTSANTA (shameless plug I know).

My favorite promotion though definitely goes out to BetUS.com.  With one of the most anticipated UFC’s (Ultimate Fighting Championship for all the noobs who have been living under a rock and follow boxing too much, heh) coming up on December 29th, BetUS is giving out some sick cash for any new depositor wanting to get their bets in for the fights.  Along with $75 in bonuses on a $200 deposit, they’re also giving out a saucy BetUS Swimsuit Calendar and DVD to all new players.  If you don’t know shit about UFC btw, check out my buddy’s site (MMABettingBlog) to get the skinny on it — because sorry, boxing lots its flare years ago…and it’s honestly a joke to watch in comparison to UFC folks.  Get on it immediately.

On top of adding those, I went ahead and updated a few of the review pages and cleaned up some other stuff on the site.  I still have yet to make any headway on the Forums and getting more active posters, but I know it’s something I have to focus on soon to get the word out about the site.  Have a few other things in mind but my side work has been getting the best of me as of late.  Anyways, rant over with for now — I hope you guys take advantage of the special deals being listed on the site for December…just in time for the holidays too, right?  LOL.

Blogging Away On A Monday Morning

Date December 10, 2007

Not really…lol — but I am extremely tired and bored on this glorious late night/early morning Monday. The weekend was solid…no poker though. I have a lot more things to do with the site yet I find myself doing a lot of other side projects instead of buckling down and finishing this damn site! At least I’ve made some more decent link swaps and hope to link you more sites on the good ‘ol blogroll.

My friend Nikki has a sweet poker blog that I added over the weekend. If you’re looking for a solid read, just check out The-Poker-Blog.com (what an awesome and straight to the point name eh?). I found another local forum located at CAZPoker.com (redirects to a simple forum) that is a pretty decent place to read over, especially if you play at Casino Arizona alot.

They’ll be more to come I hope…I need to get some sleep. It’s 2:30 in the morning and I’m just rambling about how lazy I’ve been with the site, lol.

Arizona Senator Jon Kyl Earns New Position in Congress

Date December 6, 2007

You may wonder why that affects you - well truth be told it may or may not be a big reason the UIGEA gets overturned someday down the road. Arizona Senator Jon Kyl (R) has been one of the strongest advocates to prohibit online gambling in America. His new title as minority whip in Congress could mean a more aggressive and harsher stance on the bill. He’s replacing Senator Trent Lott, who stepped down earlier last week. I’ll try and provide as many updates as I can regarding this and any Congressional decisions on the bill down the road.

AZGambler Member SHIPdaCHIPS Goes Deep in Sunday Million

Date December 6, 2007

One of my best friends and quite possibly one of the most legendary potheads I’ve ever known, “SHIPdaCHIPS,” went very deep in the PokerStars Sunday Million this past weekend. After hours and hours of grueling play, the SHIP finally went donkdown with pocket 9’s versus pocket 10’s (SFObv, right?), good enough for 38th place and a decent $3,300 payday. Congratulations sir, and it’s nice actually writing about my members doing well in tournaments again…kind of missed it from the good ol’ PokerOwnage days.

Poker Legend Chip Reese Dies At Age 56

Date December 6, 2007

In a story that may be just as surprising as it is tragic, poker great and inaugural $50K WSOP H.O.R.S.E. champion Chip Reese died in a Las Vegas hospital on December 4th, 2007.  As reported by most major poker news outlets, Reese had checked himself into an area hospital where he was being treated for symptoms of pneumonia.  The poker savant passed away in his sleep, leaving behind a legend that only some poker players could dream to achieve someday in their careers.  Chip Reese was one of Las Vegas’s biggest gamblers and was regarded by his peers as the greatest all-around poker player that ever lived.  His legacy will be remembered forever…

Bringing Aboard 2 Writers to the Site

Date November 29, 2007

In the midst of trying to actually finish my site’s content and getting it situated to really cater to local Arizona gamblers, I’ve been really fortunate to be able to have 2 of the best live poker players in the state come join the site to write strategy and of course blog about their experiences.  Brandon and Jason are two guys I’ve played with frequently, although you’ll be surprised to know I didn’t know who either of them was when I started talking to them online through another local forum, lol.  I remember Jason playing with me in a lot of the afternoon Fort McDowell tournaments, and I recall Brandon a few times at some of the cash games and tourneys at Casino Arizona and the Fort as well….but I never put the faces to the names because I have a notoriously bad memory and also because I just didn’t speak up much while I played — well, at least until the final table where I get a bit rowdy at times, haha.

Anyways, I’m really glad that they’ve decided to join the site, and I’ll be throwing their links up to their blogs very soon, as well as posting their strategy articles on the site for anyone to go and check out.  I think people will enjoy their insight and outlook on the game itself, and both of them offer a very unique perspective on many different types of games.

Running Well In PLO HL Turbo Sit and Gos on PokerStars

Date November 29, 2007

But obviously sucking hardcore at Texas Holdem SnG’s, lol. I’ve been on a uber-bad run the entire year, especially in the game that used to be my bread and butter. At least for now I’ve reverted back to my favorite game — Pot Limit Omaha H/L — and starting to run a little better thank God. I’m starting small again, trying to grind out the smaller limits and move up from there. It’s not a matter of winning $$ or building a bankroll, it’s about getting my confidence back in a game that I used to be my profession when I left my job at Chase 2 years ago. But with bills, mortgages, freelance jobs, and my own websites, it’s been tough to actually get to a table and sit for a full session ya know?

I’m running hot right now, but we’ll see if and when the variance kicks in…I’m hoping it won’t hit me too hard like it has the last few months of this year. At least I’m starting to feel a lot better in my game, especially in positions where I’m picking better spots to make moves and choosing when to gamble in those positions where I feel I have an edge over a shorter stack or a bully just trying to push me around. We’ll see how it goes from here…I’m notorious for making unwise decisions like playing ungodly, way-out-of-my-bankroll cash games, lol.

If you’re looking to start out playing Sit and Go’s, check out this article over at AZGambler.com.

PokerStars Sunday Million News

Date November 24, 2007

PokerStars recently announced that they will be showing ALL hole cards during the final table replay of their famed Sunday Million tournament.  Before the announcement, Stars management gave the final 9 players the option to either show or withhold their actual hole cards when it came to the broadcast.  This is a big story because thousands of people view the Sunday Million webcasts, and most of the time when you watched it you would notice only a handful of players would show their actual cards during the the session.  This is most likely because a lot of the more well-known players who would make the final table probably didn’t want to give to their competition any type of edge on how they play and where they pick certain spots to steal blinds or bluff at a particular pot.  This announcement by Stars changes all of that, because it will now expose to the public how everyone is playing and what cards they’re using when doing so.

Stars has not returned an email by me as to why they have recently decided to change their stance on the hole card issue, but many can assume it may be because of the recent Absolute Poker scandal that went down a few weeks ago.

Black Friday PWNS My Soul….

Date November 23, 2007

Ok ok, not really…but waking up at 4 am to go shopping on the busiest shopping day of the year was definitely retarded of me.  We waited in line at Kohl’s and Target for about 2 hours between those two stores…weeeeeeeeeeeeee.  However, we did get some cool stuff and I have to say the Black Friday wasn’t as bad I thought it might be.  I’m taking a break in between to recuperate before we head out to the malls for more!  This day would be so much better if I still wasn’t pissed off about Arizona State losing to USC last night at home…John David Booty decided to play the most amazing game of his life last night, and unfortunately fucked up any hopes of ASU playing for a BCS Bowl — well not ALL hope, we just need A LOT of help.  God damn Trojans, thanks for messing up my holiday shopping assclowns!  LOL.
